Newborn session information
First of all, congratulations! Thank you so much for your interest in Oh So Sweet Photography. My goal as a newborn photographer is to create timeless images that you will enjoy for years to come. I LOVE photographing newborns!
When to book?
The best time to book your newborn photographer is in the third trimester of your pregnancy. You will give me your tentative due date, and I will put that date on my calendar. However, if you just had a baby or are close to the end of your pregnancy, please check with me as I like to leave a day open every week for unexpected babies! After you have booked your session with me, please head over to my newborn questionnaire and answer some questions for me so that I can make sure I can accommodate any special requests for your session.
Setting Up Your Session
After you have had your baby and are home from the hospital or birthing center, contact me to schedule your session within 6-10 days of baby being born. This is the best age as babies are still very curled up, flexible, and sleepy. (All of my favorite things for newborn pictures!) Contact me between 1-3 days after baby arrives.
Your session can run anywhere from 2-4 hours. Please feel free to bring a snack, and/or something to read.
Our first goal when you come into the studio is to get baby to sleep, but please don't stress if this doesn't happen right away, this is why I schedule so much time for newborn sessions. I’m a mom of 2 myself, and I completely understand that babies can be unpredictable, and I’ve seen the worst of it. I want your session to be as relaxed as possible, and if you are stressed, baby is stressed too. Please feel free to take your time and feed, change, massage baby, whatever you think will help the baby to relax and fall asleep.
My studio will become quite hot for our session. Baby will be naked, so we want to make sure he or she is comfortable. A warm baby is a sleepy baby! Make sure you dress accordingly so that you aren't uncomfortable, but you are always welcome to step out of the studio, or outside to cool down if you need to.
You have a couple of different options on location. You can come to my studio for your session, or I can come to you. Whether you choose to come to me, or I come to you, I supply everything necessary for pictures. I will bring a posing beanbag, wraps, blankets, props, a space heater, a white noise maker, a backdrop stand, and a few other things. If I come to you, please be aware that you may need to turn your thermostat up more than usual.
I supply all necessary props, such as blankets, backdrops, hats, headbands, wraps, etc. If you have any props or blankets you have that you would like me to incorporate, I am always happy to do so! As far as outfits go, I do try to just photograph baby in his or her birthday suit, or prop clothing made specifically for newborn photography. When babies are this small, mostly outfits don't fit well, and it can be difficult to get clothing to look right. However, if there is a special outfit you really would like in photos, I will absolutely do my best to get some pictures in the outfit. Keep in mind that I always make sure all photos of babies still preserve their modesty by positioning and with wraps and props; no private parts will show. If you have any specific prop requests, please feel free to ask, but remember to give me enough time to have them for your session!
Parents of Boys
If you are circumcising your son, please allow at least 4 days for baby to heal before your session. Because I photograph babies without diapers, they can still be pretty sensitive down there during the first few days after the procedure.
Please check out my blog post for more tips and information!
Above all, safety is absolutely my first priority with your baby. I will always make sure everything I do with your baby is as safe and comfortable as possible. If you have any other questions that I haven’t covered here, please feel free to ask!
